    Sentiment Analysis on Product-Service Systems

    Get PDF
The main goal of this dissertation is to develop a tool to help each company reduce the amount of failed product-service systems that were avoidable due previous experience. By using tools and ideas already available and build them in a way they can interact with each other, this tool aims to give designers a better as faster way to view data. This was identified as a possible improvement since for the past 20 years the economy evolved into a consumer driven market, this led to the development of an extremely competitive economy. Companies need to strive for innovation and quality of products and services, faster than never. Products and services also need to match the expectations and needs of customers. Analyzing where product and service systems are lacking in terms of customer requirements is crucial. Currently it might take some time for information to travel from customer to producer, since the connection may include stores and local representatives before reaching the products’ and services’ designers. Although this information is readily available in social networks, the issue resides in efficiently merging and showing it in a simple and meaningful way to the designer of new products and systems. By shortening the time spent for information travel between costumer and producer, might lead to better and more innovative products

Current trends regarding protective ileostomy after restorative proctocolectomy

AbstractThe decision to perform a protective ileostomy after ileoanal-pouch anastomosis is con- troversial, and most of the discussion is based on its advantages and disadvantages. Al- though a temporary intestinal diversion has been routinely indicated in most patients, this choice is also associated with complications. The present work aims to review the outcomes after restorative proctocolectomy with or without a protective ileostomy in the treatment of ulcerative colitis and polyposis syndromes. Most papers emphasize that di- version protects against anastomosis leaks; consequently, it may prevent pelvic sepsis and pouch failure. Otherwise, a defunctioning ileostomy may cause morbidity such as dehydra- tion, electrolyte imbalance, psychological problems, skin irritation, anastomosis strictures and intestinal obstruction, among others. There are those who believe that the omission of an ileostomy after the confection of ileal pouches should be reserved for selected patients, with quite acceptable results. The selection criteria should include surgeon, patient and procedure features to ensure a good outcome

Counting orientations of random graphs with no directed k-cycles

For every k3k \geq 3, we determine the order of growth, up to polylogarithmic factors, of the number of orientations of the binomial random graph containing no directed cycle of length kk. This solves a conjecture of Kohayakawa, Morris and the last two authors.Comment: 15 page

Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an entity characterized by a platelet count of less than 100 × 109/L in the absence of other causes of thrombocytopenia, such as viral infections, rheumatic diseases, or drugs. Grave’s disease is also an autoimmune condition in which thrombocytopenia is often observed. Moreover, in the literature, many reports show a marked interference of the thyroid dysfunction (mainly hyperthyroidism) in the control of thrombocytopenia. Although this issue still remains debatable, the authors report the case of a young woman with a previous diagnosis of ITP with a brilliant initial response to corticotherapy. Some years after this diagnosis, the patient presented thyrotoxicosis due to Grave’s disease and the thrombocytopenia relapsed, but this time there was no response to the glucocorticoids. Only after the radioiodine I-131 thyroid ablation the control of thrombocytopenia was achieved. The authors call attention to this overlap and for testing thyroid function in every patient with an unexpected negative response to corticotherapy

Mental health, gender and elderly in the nursing home

______________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTThe scope of the present study is to investigate how aging is experienced in a gendered way, by men and women in a nursing home and its relation to mental health. 18 interviews, using a semi-structured questionnaire (9 with men, 9 with women) were performed. The analysis of the speeches showed how gender relations underpin the experiences of the institutionalized elderly (women and men), implying important differences and specificities of psychological distress. The results suggest the importance of taking into account the values of gender in the formulation of public policies on mental health for this population

With the growing demand for high-performance materials, the use of composites to replace classic materials is becoming increasingly necessary. However, synthetic materials such as glass fiber and carbon fiber are currently used for the reinforcement phase of a composite material, and this has negative implications for the environment. An alternative to synthetic fibers is natural fibers such as flax fiber and sisal. These fibers are known for their mechanical resistance and other important characteristics such as abundance, biodegradability, low density, non-toxic nature and less abrasiveness to the equipment. Taking this into account, the present work carried out the preparation and analysis of the tensile properties in epoxy composites reinforced with sisal fibers and flax fibers. The preparation of the specimens was based on the ASTM 3039 standard, the alignment of the fibers and the estimation of the Young module followed protocols covered in the literature. Afterwards, the results obtained by the two types of composites were compared, showing that the combination with flax reached 70% more tensile strength compared to sisal. There was also a directly proportional correlation between the volume of fibers in the specimens and their mechanical strength. Finally, it was concluded that the theoretical models for calculating Young's modulus proved to be inaccurate and the tensile strength data in the literature were varied and little similar to those found in the tests carried out. However, it was possible to verify the mechanical superiority of northern flax over sisal and also to explain the characteristic behavior of each composite taking into account the characteristics of its phases
